DR. GEORGE A. ASARE (Major Rtd)

Dr. George A. Asare (Major Rtd) was born in 1959, in Kumasi in Ghana. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry, a Diploma in Military Training at the Ghana Military Academy, a Masters degree in Chemical Pathology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Doctor of Philosophy(Medicine) degree and Post-Doctoral Research Fellow degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

His academic experience spans serving as a Senior Lecturer/Researcher at the University of Ghana School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences; as a Visiting Research Scholar at the Academy of Integrative Medicine, Fujian University of Chinese Traditional Medicine, and Consultant Toxicologist with PROMETRA in South Africa.

In the field of research, he has specialized in* Phytotoxicity/Phytotherapy*,Turmourigensis/Carcinogenesis*,And Oxidative Stress and Oxidative Damage* His research achievements include human studies of some Ghanaian medicinal plants for prostate cancer, the first since an attempt in the 1960’s; developing the first animal model of dietary iron overload after 30 years of research by the University of Witwatersrand (SA); undertaking toxicity examinations for three well-known medicinal plants, after which they were declared generally non-toxic at the acute and sub-acute levels. His research works have been cited in 5 internationally acclaimed books. He has authored 34 publications and peer reviewed journals and the UG Reader.

Appointments he has held include, Second-in-Command at the Division of Pathology at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, Ghana; Dean, Impact for Christ Ministries Training Center, South Africa; Head of the Chemical Pathology Unit of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, SBAHS; as Vice-Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) of the University of Ghana; as well as Head of Department for Research and Development, and Medical and other Sciences of the Science and Technology Department of the Logos Rhema Foundation For Leadership Resource Development.

Dr. George Asare has also served on quite a number of Boards and Committees from 2012 to date, including TANG-Humanitas Medicine, Medicinal Plants- International Journal on Phytomedicine, Committee on the Advances of Medicinal Plant Research in Ghana, and the Ghana Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists Scientific committee.

Dr. Asare’s life has not been limited to the scientific world of research and analyses; but to the courageous promotion of Kingdom values and a lifestyle of fruitfulness, wherever The LORD has chosen to place him.
Dr. George Asare is married with three children.
